French women spend hours and twelve products or so to look natural...

I met a dear friend after my facial recently and while at the facial I happened to tell my facialist how very lucky she was - not having to wear any makeup and that her skin was really that envious glowy variety. She told me that she uses 12 make up products to achieve that natural look. My god - I could not believe her - she took me through all the steps and I (a slap dash make up person - my goal in life is to look perfect in 5 minutes flat!) nearly fainted. Then my friend C confirmed over lunch that she did the same and I was ready to say why bother at all! I like to look like I have a hint of makeup - no I do not walk around Paris with blue eyeshadow, false eyelashes and bright pink cheeks but hey not that painfully natural! What is the point at all? Why bother? I would rather not wear any makeup.

Comments:
I love this expose. At least French women emerge from their spackling session looking natural. If I used 12 products, I'm afraid each would be distinguishable and very evident ... ick!

Well put M! This is what I thought - they blend and blend till they get the look!
:)

I am so thankful that I have such freaky-sensitive skin that I can't put much of anything on it without getting a rash -- it saves me tons of time & money. I wear mascara every day, usually some lipstick, and if I am feeling energetic, a touch of eye shadow. Of course, no one ever mistakes me for a French woman!

Sorry that your skin is that so sensitive. R like you I think I do use "few items" in a few minutes flat.

My skin is very sensitive as well but I can understand how a person can easily use twelve products. My sister who's studying to become an esthetician sent me a cleansing kit and there are four products that you apply on your face before even applying makeup, add to that products to take away redness and puffy eyes!

See - so it is possible! Thanks for letting me know that it is not just the French who do this.
:)

Whatever they do, and however they do it, the end product is often amazing, though. The look *says* 'less is more,' but the truth is that a lot 'more' goes into making the 'less' than one would think, right? Ah well. Thanks for the info--by the way, I love the Sisley products you introduced me to ;D, Mme Parisienne.

Yes - the pain they go through to use so many to look natural is utterly amazing to me. I was often under the impression that women do not wear make up - I was wrong! Oh I am so glad that you are enjoying Sisley - a fantastic French brand for some really good skincare for sensitive skin.

:)

Okay, so much for the palavering, ladies! LOL! I need to know exactly what 12 products this woman uses, and then I will decide if I need to follow her example. Because if she looks that amazing, I need to get me some of that! :):)

Darling R! Here you go - make up base, foundation, blush, eye makeup base, concealer, eye shadow, mascara, eye pencil, loose powder, lip balm/base, lip pencil, lipstick amd finally lipgloss (this makes the ritual into a 13 step one).

Please, please tell us about the 12 products!

And are they less costly than plastic surgery???

Dear B! I am copying from above - posted for our darling R!

I counted my make up - I go through 6 steps - foundation, blush, poweder, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick......

American women do it too, of course. Hmm...what have I got on? Anti-zit lotion, sunscreen, concealer, foundation powder, blush, eye pencil, mascara, eyeshadow base, eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, and lipgloss...11 products, all with the aim of looking glowingly natural (I hope). And I thought my routine was so simple!

Amazing stuff T! Oh I counted that I could also get there when I do a "full makeup". :D
